My Bristol Favourites: Sarah Newell
Sarah Newell is the managing director of Temple Cycles, a Bristol bicycle brand who will soon be moving to a new headquarters on Whiteladies Road.
The new retail space will serve as both a showroom and bike assembly workshop, as well as providing a permanent base for Temple’s growing calendar of events.
These are Sarah’s top-five Bristol favourites:
The Highbury Vaults

“The Highbury Vaults in Kingsdown was my local as a student many moons ago. It was a very convenient hop across the road after a day spent slogging away in the Arts & Social Sciences Library. I recently rediscovered it on my cycle home from Temple’s new retail location in Clifton and I fell in love with it all over again. Good pints, pasties, a train set – what’s not to like?”
Gigi’s Pizza

“Now that we’ve whet the whistle, let’s get onto my favourite spot to grab a bite. It’s got to be Gigi’s Pizza in Old Market! DO NOT SLEEP ON THIS ONE. It really does live up to the hype. I’ve eaten a hell of a lot of pizza in my time. These guys have got the secret sauce. And they are a lovely bunch too!”
The Cube

“My next Bristol favourite is the Cube Microplex: a volunteer-run cinema tucked behind Stokes Croft. It’s a space that celebrates weird and wonderful indie film, music and theatre. It’s a real gem that we must treasure and support. Every time I go, I feel equal parts bemused and inspired.”
East Bristol Books

“My favourite stop for a Saturday saunter is East Bristol Books. It’s a tiny bookshop on West Street in Old Market with the best collection of independent press, zines and writing from around the world. A cosy and accommodating place to pick up a book and dwell a while.”
Warmley Waiting Room

“Of course, I should probably let you in on my favourite spot to cycle to. This has got to be Warmley Waiting Room: an old train station converted into a down-to-earth cafe on the Bristol & Bath Railway Path. A cream tea or a bacon sarnie here usually does the trick for me!”
