My Bristol Favourites: Max Lahiff

By Molly Broderick  Friday Oct 25, 2024

Max Lahiff is a cult fan favourite at Bristol Bears, who on November 8 are taking on Australia at Ashton Gate in an exhibition game.

Lahiff plays as a prop for the Bears, and is renowned for his scrummaging and strength. He has previously represented Bath, London Irish and the Melbourne Rebels.

He found global viral fame in 2021 for an extraordinary pre-match interview and now co-hosts the Maul or Nothing podcast.

EatDrink24/7 Launch Party is back on July 8 2026!
Exclusive collabs from Bristol’s favourite food vendors, available for one night only. Be first to grab your free copy of the EatDrink24/7 guide – plus every ticket comes with a free limited-edition beer can.

These are Max’s top-five Bristol favourites:

Conham River Park

“As a dog owner, I am a very avid walker. I have two very tiny chihuahuas and I love taking them on little pilgrimages around Bristol. The best spot I’ve found is Conham River Park. In the summer you can have a swim across the river to Beeses. A nice little dip in the Avon is really quite lovely.”

Stokes Croft

“I love Stokes Croft. My two favourite spots there are both restaurants: Bokman and Caper & Cure. They are both truly lovely, really nice food and well priced. It’s all quite delicious. And then I like to have a little wander around the vintage shops nearby. It all feels very Bristol, very unique and special actually as a whole experience.”

Tomo No Ramen

“I end up at Tomo No Ramen in Old Market too often. It’s divine and I end up guzzling litres and litres of yummy Japanese noodles every time.”

Rare Butchers

“I’m very particular about my produce so I love Rare Butchers on North Street. I’m always in there buying kilos and kilos of their beef.”

The Orchard Coffee & Co

The Orchard is located within a former chapel on Clouds Hill in St George – photo: Megan Foulk

“I’m currently living in St George so one of my go-to spots there is this little cafe. The Orchard have really great coffee and I would highly recommend their bakery. I normally get the crème brûlée pastel de nata. Those things are just out of control. They are so good.”
