My Bristol Favourites: Matt Mears

By Bristol24/7  Saturday Feb 25, 2017

Matt Mears is the founder and owner of Temple Cycles. The business based in Hengrove is currently crowdfunding to help it grow, hoping to create up to 15 new jobs with the aim of creating skilled and long-term careers.

“We want to make beautiful, stylish British bicycles here in Bristol and sell them throughout the world,” said Matt, who began restoring classic bicycles while studying engineering at the University of Bristol. “There was a time when the UK’s bicycle industry was the envy of the world. It’s our dream to bring those days back.”

Here are Matt’s top-five Bristol favourites:

Parks and green spaces

A post shared by Christine (@c1comrie) on

“Bristol is full of beautiful green spaces to spend time in all year round but especially in the summer. It’s nice hanging out on Queen Square, Brandon Hill or up by the Clifton Suspension Bridge.”

Food

Box E at Cargo – read our review

“There’s so many great places to eat in Bristol. We’re really lucky to have an interesting and vibrant selection of independent businesses serving up tasty meals all over the city. There’s always new restaurants opening, the old favourites and experimental pop-ups to try out.”

Music

George Ezra playing at the Bristol Summer Series on the Lloyds Amphitheatre

“Whatever type of music you’re into, there’s something to listen to in Bristol. We’ve got all sorts going on and plenty of interesting venues. On top of this there are great music festivals in the summer as well.”

Architecture

A post shared by Bits of Bristol (@bitsofbristol) on

“Iconic structures such as the Suspension Bridge really define a character for Bristol. You get great skyline views when looking over the city from Kingsdown and there are hundreds of beautiful and interesting buildings all over the place.”

Cycling

“Last but not least the cycling, and if you like getting out on your two wheels then Bristol is the place to be. Cycling in the city is really fun, and if you want to get out further afield then we’re really close to south Wales and the Mendips for some steeper gradients.”
