What the council says about holding an annual gig on the Downs
Promoters behind Massive Attack’s 30,000-capacity homecoming told Bristol24/7 they want to hold annual gigs on the Downs.
So Bristol24/7 asked the council to comment on the possibility, which they have now done in less than extravagant style.
A nameless spokesperson said: “All event applications are treated on a case by case basis and are assessed based on factors such as size, location and logistics. For requests to hold events on the Downs we work closely with the Downs Committee who decide upon any proposals from event organisers to use this location.
“All applications for Downs based events undergo the same assessment and scrutiny and are subject to the site permissions process as any other event in the city.”
“We will soon be conducting a thorough review of the concert and its impact. We do this to learn from our experience and help us to better work with partners such as the Downs Committee and organisers in putting on events in future.”
