Two dead as car crashes into Feeder Canal

By Bristol24/7  Sunday Jan 24, 2016

A car crashed through a barrier and into Feeder Canal on Sunday evening, leaving two people dead.

The car was travelling from Short Street towards Feeder Road at about 6pm when it failed to stop, crossing two lanes and ending up in the water.

Two bodies were recovered from the scene but they had still not been identified late in the evening.

Emergency services worked together in a joint search and rescue operation to recover the car, but police said they did not believe anyone else was inside.

Search and rescue teams began to pull the vehicle out of the canal at about 10pm

The vehicle could be seen being lifted out of the water at about 10pm on Sunday evening.

Feeder Road was closed from Marsh Lane to Albert Road. Short Street was closed from Chapel Street to Feeder Road.

Anyone who may have witnessed the incident or seen the vehicle beforehand, is asked to contact 101 now and quote log number 741.

Emergency crews were stationed at the side of the canal late into the night
