Police search Troopers Hill for Becky Watts

By Pamela Parkes  Wednesday Feb 25, 2015

Police searching for missing teenager Becky Watts cordoned off woodland on Troopers Hill nature reserve in St George on Wednesday morning.

Three scientific investigation vans have arrived and police appear to have extended the cordon further up Lamb Hill.

The 16-year-old has been missing for six days from her home in Crown Hill, less than a mile away.

At 4.30pm on Wednesday, Becky’s family and friends will be leading a search of the area around her home.

A police spokesman said the search on Troopers Hill was part of a wider investigation into her disappearance.

Rebecca, known as Becky, was last seen at her home at approximately 11.15am last Thursday.

On Tuesday evening, scientific investigation vans were parked outside her home and police horses were brought in to search the open land and parks. Police have also been conducting door to door inquiries in their efforts to find the teenager.

Detective Inspector Richard Ocone is leading the investigation.

He said: “Firstly, I want to reiterate to Rebecca directly – you are in absolutely no trouble.

“We are all just worried about you and we want to make sure you are ok.

“If you can just call home, one of your friends or call us on 101, we can work with you to help work through any issues you are facing.

“I would also ask anyone who might know where Rebecca is to come forward and let us know.

“This is completely out of character for Rebecca to leave without telling her family or friends – especially if she is not planning on coming home.

He said they were trying to piece together her movements since she left her home: “We know she took her laptop and mobile phone with her – but no clothing or make-up. Nothing to suggest she would be away for several days.

“We are continuing to search the local area, concentrating on open spaces and park areas – this is a routine part of a missing persons search that we always undertake.

“This is to look for anything that Becky might have been dropped.

“Rebecca has a wide range of friends and relatives, some of whom, we have not been able to contact yet.

“We would appeal to them to contact us if Rebecca has been in touch as a matter of urgency.
