Teenager arrested following robberies on Bristol & Bath Railway Path

By Ellie Pipe  Tuesday Aug 21, 2018

Police say they are continuing to carry out high-visibility patrols along the Bristol & Bath Railway Path following attacks that shook the cycling community.

Officers arrested a teenage boy at the weekend in connection with three robberies that have taken place in recent weeks. He has since been released under investigation.

One victim spoke out to warn other cyclists after he was attacked two weeks ago by a group of about 15 teenagers, who kicked him to the ground and threatened him with a thick chain lock, before stealing his bike.

This was one of a number of reported incidents that led to rising concern about cyclists’ safety along the popular route and a ‘reclaim the B2B’ event saw members of the public, police and campaigners unite in solidarity against the perpetrators.

Speaking this week, a police spokesperson said: “We’re continuing to tackle anti-social behaviour along the bike path and have been carrying out high visibility patrols.

“We’d urge anyone who has any information into any incidents along the path to call 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.

“And if anyone sees groups of youths acting anti-socially or feels intimidated please call 101 or 999 if a crime is being committed.”
