Supermarket announces closure of Bristol store
Co-op has announced that it will be permanently closing one of its shops in south Bristol.
The store on North Street will close its doors for the final time at 10pm on February 24.
A spokesperson for the shop’s owners, Southern Co-op, said the closure is due to “sustained market change” and an increase in costs.
The shop in Bedminster next to the Hen & Chicken was an auction room in the 1990s and later a bed store.
It was the most recent supermarket addition to North Street, opening in 2011.
In a statement, the Southern Co-op spokesperson said: “The closure of the North Street store forms part of our wider efforts to optimise our store portfolio and strengthen our long-term operating model given external challenges and competition.
“We would like to thank our customers for their loyalty and apologise for any disappointment caused as a result of the decision to close this store.”
