Section of main road to close for two weeks

By Betty Woolerton  Friday Nov 28, 2025

Part of Whiteladies Road will be completely closed to vehicles for almost two weeks.

The closure is due to a drainage investigation, with the busy route already shut-off in one direction since July as Bristol City Council conducts works to eliminate localised flooding.

Council bosses are also aiming to improve walking and cycling routes in the area by junctions of Tyndall’s Park Road, St Paul’s Road and Queen’s Road.

From Monday until Friday, December 12, the lower part of Whiteladies Road will be totally closed to motor vehicles, with a signposted diversion in place.

Buses – including the 1, 2, 2a, 3, 4, 71, T7, U1, U1N, and Y6 services – will be also diverted, but pedestrian access will be maintained during the work.

The southbound lane is expected to reopen on December 13, and the northbound lane by December 19, with full road access returning by the end of the year.

Work will then continue in 2026 “to complete drainage, pavement, cycle path and resurfacing works”.
