Science goes to the pub
If you think pubs are bad for your brain you might change your mind when Pint of Science comes to town. The annual festival brings the most interesting, knowledgeable scientists to talk about their research in the comfort of a good boozer.
Pint of Science was launched in 2013 by Michael Motskin and Praveen Paul, then research scientists at Imperial College London. Initially restricted to pubs in London, Oxford and Cambridge it now takes place simultaneously in fifty cities and eight different countries.

There are 18 events across Bristol, featuring academics from the University of Bristol and UWE making their research accessible to the public in a relaxed, informal environment. The huge variety of topics includes Climate Change, Robotics, Animal Camouflage, Nanomedicine and the Science of Pints, as well as asking the all-important question: ‘Can We Levitate Humans?’
The three-day festival takes place from 18 to 20 May at much loved Bristol drinking holes such as The Full Moon, The Greenbank and The Hen and Chicken. With talks, discussions, demos and more, audience members are invited to sit back, sip their drinks, listen and then ask questions or have a drink with the speakers.
Pint of Science is at various Bristol venues on May 18 – 20. For more information visit pintofscience.co.uk/events/bristol
