Pro-Palestine protesters call for insurance firm to ‘pick a side’

By Lorenzo Bishop  and  Karen Johnson  Thursday Aug 28, 2025

Nearly 30 people gathered outside the Allianz office in Bristol on Thursday afternoon, as part of a multi-city day of action against the insurance firm.

The protest organised by multiple pro-Palestine groups within the city was against the insurance firm’s alleged investment in and insurance of Elbit Systems.

Protesters outside the firm’s office on Victoria Street held up banners and photographs of those killed in the Gaza conflict, while chanting slogans in unison.

One of the chants urged Allianz to “pick a side”, going on to demand “justice for genocide”.

A banner linking the insurance firm to Elbit read: “Drop Elbit! Allianz insures genocide.”

The protest was one of several coordinated demonstrations against Allianz that took place across the country on Thursday, with similar protests in Birmingham, Manchester, Lancaster and Guildford.

In an Instagram post, the protest organisers said: “The occupation state would not be able to operate without the unwavering support of its equally complicit partners of genocide – partners such as Allianz Insurance.

“In addition to its £655k worth of investments in Elbit Systems, Allianz provides Employers Liability Insurance to Elbit Systems UK, through its subsidiary ‘Allianz Insurance Products Trust’.

“Allianz, you have no escape: Cut your ties with Elbit or face the waves of people holding you accountable.”

The Allianz offices in Bristol have been targeted previously, with the now proscribed group Palestine Action spray painting and blocking access to their Victoria Street office in April.

Bristol24/7 have contacted Allianz for a comment.
