Planning submitted for new footbridge next to YTL Arena
The lead architect behind Brabazon claims that living close to a proposed arena “is what has drawn many residents” to move into homes on the former Filton airfield.
The YTL Arena Bristol website no longer gives an estimated opening date for the venue.
But YTL have now submitted revised planning applications to both Bristol City Council and South Gloucestershire Council for a new pedestrian footbridge connecting the new town of Brabazon to the future arena.
is needed now More than ever
The bridge, which will cross the existing railway line, is said to “take influence from the Spanish Steps in Rome, with elevated viewing platforms and dwelling spaces”.
Its design is also said to “complement and celebrate the aviation heritage of the Brabazon hangars and local area”.
YTL Developments planning & development director, Seb Loyn, said: “Managing the number of people entering the Brabazon area on event days and their journeys to the arena is critical.
“The design of the bridge is just one of many considerations being taken to maximise customer experience and accessibility, alongside a variety of transport options.
“Having the new arena entertainment complex so close by is what has drawn many residents to move to Brabazon, so this bridge will connect them even further to the site and its rich aviation heritage.”
