Pedestrian hit by police car in city centre

Police are appealing for witnesses after a pedestrian was injured by a police car in Bristol city centre in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

Police were responding to an emergency call in the early hours of the morning when the incident occurred.

The pedestrian was hospitalised with a head which is not believed to be life-threatening.

Avon and Somerset Police has made a mandatory referral to the Independent Office of Police Conduct following the incident.

In a statement, Avon & Somerset Police said: “At around 12.45am today (Tuesday, May 30), a police car was involved in a collision with a pedestrian in Bond Street, Bristol, while responding to an emergency call.”

“The pedestrian has been taken to hospital with a head injury which is not believed to be life-threatening or life changing.”

“The roads were closed while emergency services are at the scene and was reopened at 7am.

“We will be making a mandatory referral to the IOPC as is standard procedure in these circumstances.

The public are being urged to call 101 with quote reference 5223125716, if they witnessed the collision, or have any relevant footage, and have not yet spoken to an officer.
