Pay deal for staff at new waste company
Staff at Bristol’s newly-formed council-run waste service will have their pay aligned after a “landmark” deal brokered by Unison.
The public service union said it had secured “pay parity” for those working in both recycling and refuse who were “ultimately doing the same job”.
Differences in wages, which had reached 16 per cent, will be ironed out by 2018, the union said.
“Although it does come with some changes to working practices, this is the best deal we have had for many years,” Dudley Hackling, a Unison steward, said.
Lisa Browne, Unison area organiser, said: “This pay offer represents a very good deal for our members and has only been made possible by the hard work of our Stewards and our unified joint negotiations with Unite. As a union we will continue to champion pay parity for all of our members.”
