New booking system launched in bid to tackle delays at Bristol recycling centres

By Isobel Turner  Wednesday May 11, 2022

Bristol Waste Company has launched a new booking system in a bid to tackle queues and pollution at their sites.

The new system will replace the previous odd and even number plate system. Residents can now access the site any day, providing they book in advance.

Councillor and cabinet member for Climate, Ecology, Waste and Energy, Kye Dudd, said: “The new booking system will help manage the heavy demand on the city’s Household Reuse and Recycling Centres.

EatDrink24/7 Launch Party is back on July 8 2026!
Exclusive collabs from Bristol’s favourite food vendors, available for one night only. Be first to grab your free copy of the EatDrink24/7 guide – plus every ticket comes with a free limited-edition beer can.

“It will reduce queues, drive down emissions from queuing vehicles and ensure a smoother on-site experience for our residents.”

Dudd added: “We have seen the system work really well in local authorities across the county, as well as neighbouring areas such as Bath and North East Somerset and Gloucestershire and Swindon.”

People coming on foot or bike will not need to book but vans and trailers will need to obtain a permit if they are more than five feet in length.

A third reuse and recycling centre on Hartcliffe Way is also nearing completion and due to open in the coming months.

The new booking system opens on May 23 and will come into effect on June 6. Residents can make bookings up to two weeks in advance, up to one hour before they visit.
