Lorry retrieved after plunging into docks
“You can’t park there!” shouted a passenger from a passing boat in the direction of the lorry that had plunged into the Floating Harbour on Thursday morning.
Once it had been confirmed that nobody had been injured in the incident, the jokes came thick and fast.
“His next job could be in maritime transport, he just doesn’t know it yet,” wrote Daniel Durrans on Twitter.
“Looks like knowing how to reverse might be important,” said Alexa Milne, referencing recently shared claims that the reversing element is being removed from HGV tests to make them easier to pass.
“First it was Colston and now they go after our heavy goods vehicles. Disgraceful,” said James Cook on Facebook.
After being retrieved inch by inch by Avonmouth-based recovery specialists Walls, the lorry – containing costumes for The Outlaws – was finally pulled out of the water soon before 3.45pm, with a round of applause from both sides of the docks.
