Lamplight procession shines a light on care

By Martin Booth  Sunday Mar 23, 2025

The importance and value of care was the central message of a procession through the city centre on Saturday evening.

The Shine a Light on Care march was a lamplight procession calling for parents and carers “to be visible, valued and supported”.

Ahead of the event, Bristol Women’s Voice said: “We will walk and sing with our heads held high, our messages shining bright, claiming our honour and dignity, and that of those who will be absent due to caring responsibilities or being cared for, and we are calling for change.”

This event was part of the Caring Economy Campaign which is calling on employers, the West of England Mayoral Combined Authority, Bristol City Council and the government “to adopt the caring economy as a strategic driver for investment across public services, training, skills, transport, environmental sustainability and for those disadvantaged by poverty and discrimination”.
