Human rights group holds 40th annual garden party
Bristol Amnesty International Group have held their 40th annual garden party at Goldney Hall in Clifton to raise funds for human rights.
The event on Sunday included live music as well as a variety of stalls, a raffle, and activities for children. Homemade cakes and refreshments were also available in the Orangery.
There was also a chance to explore the Goldney Hall gardens – including the 18th-century Grotto, which is decorated with rare shells and Bristol Diamonds (quartz crystals found in the Avon Gorge).
Sarah Heath, secretary of Bristol Amnesty International Group and a volunteer for the Amnesty Bookshop on Gloucester Road, commented on the anniversary: “The fact it’s been going for 40 years shows what an amazing city Bristol is but sadly it also means that the fight for equal human rights is not over and we need to keep going.”
The Bristol Amnesty International Group, which recently merged with the Weston group, is one of almost 300 local groups that operate in the UK and contribute to Amnesty International‘s work to defend human rights around the world.
