Grosvenor Hotel site listed for sale and then removed
Confusion surrounds the current situation of one of Bristol’s most notorious eyesores.
A property marketing firm listed the former Grosvenor Hotel site for sale, asking for offers in excess of £12m, before its online listing appears to have been removed.
The site was being advertised by Tunbridge Wells-based SJD as having the potential for a 17-storey tower, with a CGI showing the cylindrical tower behind a section of the hotel that was partially demolished in February 2024.

SJD’s listing for the Grosvenor Hotel said that it was “a site which had a positive pre-application for a 17-storey building, primarily to be used as student accommodation”.
“Alternative plans have also been drafted for a twelve-storey hotel, with commercial units on the basement and ground floor levels, as well as a rooftop restaurant.
“The building was previously used as a hotel and then a residential unit, and has since been part demolished due to a fire in 2024.”

SJD founder and director Steve Donnelly said his company acts for potential buyers rather than the owner of the former hotel, Nimish Popat.
Popat is currently embroiled in an impasse with Bristol City Council over the future of the building opposite Temple Meads.
Donnelly told the Bristol Post: “The vendor has asked us to try to find a buyer.
“This is a site where almost anything will be welcome as it has been left for so long.
“We’ve got a few interested parties, so we will see if a deal can be done.”
Bristol24/7 has contacted Donnelly for clarification over the latest situation with the site.
