Grievous bodily harm suspects amid seven arrested at unofficial St Paul’s Carnival
Two men suspected of causing grievous bodily harm with intent were among seven people arrested at the unofficial St Paul’s Carnival on Saturday.
The largely peaceful celebration attracted tens of thousands of party-goers, putting on a show despite the official event having been cancelled.
Among the festivities, the two men were arrested on suspicion of affray with one also arrested for possession of cannabis.
A teenager was arrested for being in possession of a bladed article as well as cannabis, and on suspicion of breaking a Criminal Behaviour Order.
33-year-old Iyub Mohammed from St Paul’s was arrested and later charged with being drunk and disorderly and for breaching a Community Protection Notice. A court appearance was set for Monday.
A further person was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving but de-arrested shortly afterwards.
More than 300 officers and staff were involved in the policing operation for the event, with a heightened police presence until 4am on Sunday morning.
Neighbourhood policing inspector Tom Tooth said: “We were very grateful for the engagement of members of the community before and during the event to support our policing operation.
“While a small number of incidents did occur and a number of arrests were made, overall the event was peaceful and good-natured.
