Finzels Reach Bridge set to be installed

By Bristol24/7  Thursday Dec 1, 2016

Let’s not call it iconic quite yet, but a curved steel bridge will be created piece by piece next week to connect Castle Park with the new Finzels Reach development.

The 91-metre bridge  will not open to the public until January, but from Monday it will be transported in pieces by barge from Cattle Market Wharf next to Temple Meads fixed into position.

The first small sections will be floated down the Floating Harbour on Monday, with the final large section expected to be lowered into place on Thursday, with further works following to stabilise and complete the £2.7 million bridge.

Gavin Bridge, director of Cubex, the developers behind Finzels Reach, said: “As many will have seen, there have been some eye-catching preparations for the bridge going on since the summer but the installation of the crossing itself is going to be quite a spectacle.

“This new route is going to be a striking addition to Bristol’s landscape and will provide a much-needed link to the city centre for pedestrians and cyclists.

“It’s a really exciting milestone for the new Finzels Reach city quarter and one which will benefit Bristolians, local businesses and visitors to our city for many years to come.”
