Is the end nigh for notorious eyesore?
Fencing is being erected around the perimeter of buildings due to be demolished to make way for a major new development.
The site on Wine Street and High Street is set to be replaced by shops, cafes, restaurants and bars on the ground floor, and 340,000 sq ft of offices on the floors above.
The St Mary Le Port scheme promises “to bring this historic area back into sustainable, contemporary use and reconnect the area with Castle Park”.

The development has proved one of the most controversial in Bristol during recent years with opponents of the scheme failing in their attempt to persuade the plans approved by councillors to be quashed in Westminster.
But for many people, anything would be better than the current trio of eyesore buildings – Norwich Union House, the Bank of England offices and Bank House – that obscure the historic tower of the bombed-out St Mary Le Port Church.

Bristol24/7 has asked developers if the fencing around the site means that demolition is due to start soon.
