Darren Jones appointed to newly created No 10 role
Keir Starmer has appointed Darren Jones to a new role at the heart of government.
The Bristol North West MP is now chief secretary to the prime minister, a newly created job which will see Jones report directly to the prime minister.
Based within No. 10, Jones “will work collaboratively across UK Government to drive forward progress in key policy areas”.

In a news release, No. 10 said that the ministerial role “will directly oversee work across Government to support the delivery of the Prime Minister’s priorities and the Government’s Plan for Change”.
Jones, who grew up in Lawrence Weston, became an MP in 2017 and has most recently been chief secretary to the Treasury.
