County Ground to be used for Covid vaccinations
The fight against coronavirus has replaced the usual cricket at the County Ground, where vaccinations are being administered by staff from the nearby Gloucester Road Medical Centre.
With safety regulations such as social distancing in place, the centre in Horfield has had to limit the number of staff and patients in their practice.
Patients are being administered the vaccine in the Jessop Room located on the ground floor of the Bristol Pavilion at the County Ground, which has previously already hosted flu vaccinations.
Gloucestershire Cricket CEO, Will Brown said: “At one of the most testing times we have all faced, Gloucestershire Cricket has been proud to partner with Gloucester Road Medical Centre to offer our facilities for vaccinations to those in our local community.
“Following on from last Autumn’s flu jabs, and at a time where the vast majority of our staff are working remotely, it is heartening to see our home and facilities being used to help combat Covid-19.
“Members of Gloucestershire’s own staff have volunteered to help assist in the vaccination process on site, and we will continue to do everything we can to help in the weeks and months to come.”
The news comes as Gloucestershire’s interrupted 150th anniversary year in 2020 continues in 2021 with a new-look 151 Not Out programme of events.
Members and supporters will be able to enjoy events online and hopefully also face-to-face when the time comes.
