Community Centre secures vital funding
St Werburgh’s Community Association has secured vital funding to help maintain and upkeep its Community Centre building.
The Community Centre has served the people of St Werburgh’s since 1971 and before that the building operated as a school.
As the building is over 50 years old, there has been some wear and tear over the years, including a few leaks and cracks in the building’s exterior.
is needed now More than ever
Earlier in September, St Werburgh’s Community Association, which runs the Community Centre, were granted £38,998 by the Veolia Environmental Trust to help combat some of these issues.
The Veolia Environmental Trust is the charity arm of Veolia UK, the UK-branch of Veolia, a waste, water and energy management transnational company.
Veolia UK has a Landfill Communities Fund, which it uses to grant money to communities in the vicinity of landfill sites through the Veolia Environmental Trust.
Goska Ong, St Werburgh’s Community Centre director, said “We are grateful for the support.
“It’s not just an award – it’s a chance to grow together.
“This is a win for everyone who benefits from our facilities. Thanks to this funding, we can continue making a real difference where it matters most and in a cosy and dry building.”
Carla Denyer, Green MP for Bristol Central, added: “I am delighted that St Werburgh’s Community Centre has been awarded a grant to make improvements to their building.
“From their Warm Welcome Drop-in to their weekly Foodshare for those struggling with the cost of essentials, the Centre provides vital services for people who live locally.
“Their commitment to continually improving their space to ensure it’s as welcoming and accessible as possible should be celebrated.
“Well done to all of the staff and volunteers whose hard work has helped contribute to securing this grant.”
As well as the £38,998 grant, St Werburgh’s Community Association has also recently been granted money by the National Lottery Community Fund, the Bernard Sunley Foundation, Garfield Weston Foundation and Triodos Bank.
This additional funding has been used for other essential repairs, including the replacement of a heating pump.
