Long-awaited demolition of crumbling building underway
A derelict building that has blighted a neighborhood for years is finally being torn down.
Contractors have arrived in St Werbugh’s and have made much headway in pulling down the Kernow Building on Mina Road.
Expected to take six weeks, the section of road outside Sonni’s cornershop is closed to cars while the project is carried out by Bath Demolition.
It’s a win for local residents who have been continuously calling for the “eyesore” building to be torn down and repurposed.

A safety concern for years, the Kernow Building in St Werburgh’s is now in the process of being reduced to rubble
The three-story building used to be a music shop called Kernow, but has lain empty and increasingly dilapidated since it closed in the 1990s.
It is being demolished due to safety concerns, with work carried out by council contractors and all costs being charged to the property’s owner, Mushtaq Ahmed.
The Kernow Building is among dozens of properties owned by Ahmed, who has previously been fined thousands of pounds for neglecting them.
What will happen to the plot once the building is gone remains unclear, with residents setting up a petition to try and “shape the future of the site”.
