Colston Street closed due to unsafe building
Colston Street in the city centre remains closed today while fire investigators assess the damage to a block of student accommodation.
Avon Fire & Rescue said they want to secure the building which they fear has been damaged structurally before reopening the road.
A huge fire tore through the roof of the 33 Colston Street from 1pm on Monday.
All residents were evacuated and no one is thought to have been injured. The cause of the fire has not yet been confirmed, although reports suggest it started in a kitchen.
An Avon Fire & Rescue spokesman said on Tuesday morning: “Crews carried out regular inspections throughout the night, damping down the fire hot spots.
“Inspections will continue in to the day and Colston Street remains closed due to the structural instability of the building.”
