City street goes back in time for Young Sherlock filming

By Karen Johnson  Sunday Jan 12, 2025

A central part of the city has once again been taken back in time, for some more filming for Guy Ritchie’s Amazon Prime series Young Sherlock.

The entire stretch of Broad Street was transformed into an 1870s street, with businesses being transformed into butchers, a flower shop and a barber shop.

Carriages were lined outside Clayton Hotel and horses walked onto the closed street that was filled with mud for the filming on Sunday morning.

The crew were also spotted filming scenes in Underfall Yard on Saturday and are expected to continue filming on Broad Street till January 14.

Full Court Press which is usually buzzing with people looking for a shot of caffeine was also closed, as the cafe became the sight of a flower shop with potted flowers and vintage signage.

While Hero Fiennes Tiffin was not spotted this time around, many unidentified actors were seen filming.

Young Sherlock revolves around the early years of detective Sherlock Holmes played by Tiffin, and is believed to be an adaptation of Andrew Lane’s Young Sherlock Holmes book series.

A release date for the series has not formally been announced.

The series is expected to have eight episodes that will air on Amazon Prime, with filming scheduled to take place in Spain in the future months of 2025.
