Bristol’s newest venue to open in former torpedo testing site

By Martin Booth  Sunday Jul 4, 2021

Bristol’s newest venue opens on Friday on the site of a former Ministry of Defence torpedo testing site.

Propyard will host a variety of events including music, food and arts within an indoor and outdoor space off Feeder Road in St Philip’s.

It’s the city’s second new venue in a repurposed space to open in as many weeks, following hot on the heels of Lost Horizon in St Jude’s

Transformed by a collective of events specialists, there will be a capacity of more than 500 even with social distancing still in place.

Street food vendors at Propyard will include Loki Poké, Cyprus Kitchen and Paletas.

An opening weekend will feature Manami, Daisy Moon & Chris Farrell and Millie Mckee, with Velvet Velour & Lakewest, Dar Disku, Soulworks and Alfresco Disco all playing in July.

Propyard’s Sam Watts said: “Propyard is the culmination of months of work to transform this disused space in a really fantastic but often underrepresented part of the city.

“We are booking a stellar lineup of entertainment from all over the UK, as well as curating art and cultural events within our spaces.

“It’s perfect for light installations, experiential events and music, and big enough to be spacious and safe if we need to maintain social distancing through the summer.”
