#BristolCharityAdvent day 11: Avon & Bristol Law Centre
Avon & Bristol Law Centre provide specialist legal advice and representation to people who could not otherwise afford access to justice.
Their solicitors focus on social welfare law issues such as community care, discrimination, employment, housing, immigration and asylum, mental health and welfare benefits to people living in Bristol.
The Law Centre typically helps more than 2,000 disadvantaged citizens every year to get access to justice – many of whom would not be able to protect their rights otherwise.
Avon and Bristol Law Centre is a small charity with a big range of skilled volunteering opportunities.
Their Legal Advocacy Support Project with volunteer law students won Pro Bono Initiative of the Year at the National Lawyer Awards in 2016.
Around 20 local law firms provide pro bono support which enables the charity to offer regular free law clinics to people with issues that are not eligible for legal aid.
