Boost to make Bristol a cultural destination

By Bristol24/7  Tuesday Jan 10, 2017

Plans to put Bristol on the map as a cultural destination have received a significant boost.

Bristol and Bath will share a £150,000 award from Arts Council England and VisitEngland to promote and develop the cultural heritage of the two cities.

A team at Spike Island will lead the project which will see a new partnership of leading cultural organisations, destination management organisations and tourism businesses. Between them they will aim to develop a coordinated approach to increasing the number of tourists visiting the region.

EatDrink24/7 Launch Party is back on July 8 2026!
Exclusive collabs from Bristol’s favourite food vendors, available for one night only. Be first to grab your free copy of the EatDrink24/7 guide – plus every ticket comes with a free limited-edition beer can.

The team want to promote Bristol as a cultural and arts destination

Phil Gibby, Arts Council England, said: “The investment will help the consortium to take advantage of the unique characteristics of the region and to fully articulate this offer to visitors, boosting the local economy and placing the region on an international stage.”

The grant has been made through Cultural Destinations, an initiative that was developed by the Arts Council as a result of a three year partnership with VisitEngland.

The aim of the programme is to enable arts and culture organisations working in partnership with Destination Organisations and other tourism partners, to increase their reach, engagement and resilience.
