Big brown boxes blight Broadmead

By Martin Booth  Wednesday Aug 6, 2025

Broadmead has never been Bristol’s most visually stimulating of areas.

But new street furniture has done nothing at all to add to the aesthetic, with the large brown boxes already being likened to toilets.

Even calling them street furniture does a disservice to that designation.

Two of the structures have appeared in Broadmead so far. One is in front of Shredenhams on the Horsefair and the other is outside Sainsbury’s opposite an entrance to Cabot Circus.

They appear to actually be cell site masts, with aerials potentially being placed on top of them to provide better mobile phone signal coverage across the city centre.
