Becky Watts: Police continue questioning pair
Police are continuing to question two people they arrested on suspicion of the murder of Becky Watts.
They were arrested on Saturday afternoon following an extensive search of houses and open areas in Bristol.
Yesterday police announced that the 28-year-old man and 21-year-old woman had been initially arrested on suspicion of kidnap of Becky and had been re-arrested on the suspicion of her murder.
On Monday morning police were given an extra 36 hours to question the pair.
They have not released any further details about the people they have arrested but police said they had “sufficient information” to make the arrests.
On social media members of Becky’s family said they were “completely broken” and “support each other tonight in hell that has only just started.”
Detective Superintendent Mike Courtiour said the investigation was now at a “critical stage” and forensic searches of three houses would continue and these are “detailed, forensic searches which will take some time to complete”.
“This is a very sensitive investigation and I am not in a position to give you any further information or the identity of those in custody.”
He added that the search for Becky would continue “unabated”.
Locations searched so far in the investigation include:
- Becky’s family home in Crown Hill
- A house in Cotton Mill Lane, Barton Hill
- A house in Wilton Close, Southmead
- St George’s Park
- Troopers Hill, St George
- Badock’s Wood, near Southmead
- Henleaze Lake
- Wharf Road, Fishponds
- Trym Valley, near Southmead
Over the weekend a black Vauxhall Zafira car was removed from a property in Southmead. Police launched a public appeal asking for information about the car , with the registration plate HY06 HYA, during the “critical time” between 19 February when Becky went missing and 23 February.
