Becky’s step-brother admits manslaughter

By Louis Emanuel  Wednesday Oct 7, 2015

The step-brother of Bristol teenager Becky Watts, whose body was found dismembered in Barton Hill, has admitted killing her, but denies murder.

Nathan Matthews, 28, of Hazelbury Drive, Warmley, and his girlfriend Shauna Hoare, 21, of Cotton Mill Lane, Barton Hill, both pleaded not guilty to murder and conspiracy to kidnap Watts. But Matthews admitted killing her by manslaughter.

Matthews pleaded guilty to perverting the course of justice by giving false information with regards to “hiding, dismembering and hiding again” the body of Watts. He also pleaded guilty to preventing a lawful burial and possessing two stun guns.

Hoare pleaded not guilty to the previous three charges.

Donovan Demetrius, 29, of March Lane, Redfield and James Ireland, 23, of Richmond Villas, Avonmouth, pleaded not guilty to assisting an offender by “removing, storing in various bags the body parts of Rebecca Watts”.

Donovan’s brother Karl Demitrius, 29, and his partner Jaydene Parsons, 23, both of Barton Court, have admitted assisting an offender.

Becky went missing from her home in Crown Hill on February 20, sparking a major police search which drew the attention of the nation.

The search took police to Cotton Mill Lane in Barton Court before ending at a property around the corner in Barton Court, where Becky Watts’ body parts were discovered on March 2.

The full details of the case are being set out in court, where the trial opened in earnest on Wednesday.

The case continues.
