Wallace and Gromit turn 30

By Lowie Trevena  Friday Mar 1, 2019

The perfect way to start any birthday is with a slice of cake, and the team at Aardman Animations traded their model-making skills for baking to kick off Wallace and Gromit’s 30th birthday.

The celebrations held in honour of Bristol’s much-loved Bristol characters included a bake sale to raise funds for The Grand Appeal, a Bristol-based charity.

“It’s always fun when Wallace and Gromit get to come and enjoy the cake too!”

As well as hosting popular trails, The Grand Appeal, spearheaded by Wallace and Gromit, raises money for Bristol’s Children’s Hospital in a variety of ways.

EatDrink24/7 Launch Party is back on July 8 2026!
Exclusive collabs from Bristol’s favourite food vendors, available for one night only. Be first to grab your free copy of the EatDrink24/7 guide – plus every ticket comes with a free limited-edition beer can.

Bake sales are a fun way to test out new recipes and old favourites, before gathering friends and colleagues together for elevenses and donating spare change for a slice of cake.

It appears the Aardman team not only make great animation, but excellent cake too.

To keep Wallace happy, there was even a Victoria sponge, cleverly disguised chunk of cheese and slice of Edam.

Shh.. Wallace doesn’t need to know it’s not actually cheese!

Speaking with Kate Fogarty, media relations officer at The Grand Appeal, she said “it’s always fun when Wallace and Gromit get to come and enjoy the cake too!”

With Aardman staff grabbing a slice of cake to start the birthday celebrations, they’re were all excited to help an excellent cause whilst wishing Wallace and Gromit many happy returns.
