In photos: Inside Bristol’s former magistrates’ court
There has been disbelief across Bristol after the city council blocked funding from the West of England Combined Authority to a new project from Creative Youth Network called The Courts.
The charity want to turn the derelict former magistrates’ courts on Bridewell Street into a hub for the creative sector.
All of the companies based in The Courts would take on young people as apprentices to help diverse and disadvantaged young adults to get the start they need in the creative industries.
Built in 1879, the Grade II listed former magistrates’ courts have sat empty since the 1960s, with four courtrooms and original Victorian cells all still in place.
A rare opportunity to go inside the building took place at the weekend as art installation Unstable Monuments took over the space.
