Bristol Charity Advent Calendar 2024, day 2: Refugee Women of Bristol
Refugee Women of Bristol (RWoB) celebrated their 20th anniversary in 2023; the same year they were Bristol24/7’s charity partner.
RWoB is the only multi-ethnic and multi-faith organisation that specifically targets the needs of refugee women in our city.
The charity provides services to disenfranchised groups and reaches cohorts of women that other service providers are often unable to access.
is needed now More than ever
Every year, RWoB supports around 300 refugee and asylum-seeking women and their pre-school children.
Through their work they aim to raise the educational and economic status of refugee and asylum seeking women; and provide access to English language learning, volunteering and training opportunities in order to increase the ability of service users to gain employment and support themselves and reduce isolation and improve confidence.
Women from across the world come to their drop-in centre in Easton, where all women from a refugee or asylum seeking background are welcome.
One of the most important things the charity provides is breakfast, hot drinks and lunch for around 130 women and their pre-school children every week.
Other services at the drop-in centre include a free crèche, English classes and mental wellbeing support.
