An appreciation for Bristol’s bins

By Ellie Pipe  Wednesday Oct 26, 2022

Some are piled high with waste, others have a painted face, there are those that recycle cups from takeaways while many have seen better days.

Bins might not be among the most glamorous part of Bristol’s infrastructure, but they play a vital role.

Now an Instagram account is dedicated to appreciating the city’s bins – from the funny to the mundane, the fancy embossed ones that have had a fresh lick of paint and the graffiti-scrawled dumpers.

EatDrink24/7 Launch Party is back on July 8 2026!
Exclusive collabs from Bristol’s favourite food vendors, available for one night only. Be first to grab your free copy of the EatDrink24/7 guide – plus every ticket comes with a free limited-edition beer can.

The strapline is “in the search for Bristol’s most prestigious bins”. But the important thing, says Binstagram Bristol founder Brenton, is “we are all binclusive here, no bin goes in the bin”.

The account showcases a range of bins spotted in Bristol, many in comic situations, and each submitted by an eagle-eyed bin spotter.

Brenton made the account for a joke. “You see bins everywhere and often see some weird and wonderful things in and on them, so I thought why not make an account showing loads of funny bins,” the Binstagram Bristol founder tells Bristol24/7.

“It also gets a bit addictive, once you start looking for bins you see them everywhere.”

Brenton adds: “I just want any bin that either looks funny, has some sort of story to it (be imaginative), maybe has something funny written on it? Just anything that catches your eye, there’s no such thing as a bad submission! We are all binclusive here, no bin goes in the bin.”

Binstagram Bristol has stickers up around the city calling for people to send in their own comical bin shots.

Don’t let the opportunity go to waste – get snapping your favourite bins and submit them to the city’s bin-appreciation account.
