The museums and galleries reopening their doors this week

By Safiya Bashir  Tuesday May 18, 2021

Museums and art galleries across Bristol are beginning to reopen their doors for the first time since January.

As Covid restrictions ease, you are now able to book a slot at the multiple museums from Tuesday and visit the exhibitions in maximum groups of six.

After having spent months closed amid the pandemic, Bristol Museum is welcoming back visitors with exhibitions including photographs by Martin Parr and paintings by James Barnor.

EatDrink24/7 Launch Party is back on July 8 2026!
Exclusive collabs from Bristol’s favourite food vendors, available for one night only. Be first to grab your free copy of the EatDrink24/7 guide – plus every ticket comes with a free limited-edition beer can.

Time slots for Bristol Museum are available every 30 minutes during the day, with the last entry into the museum at 4 pm.

Also reopening this week is Bristol Archives, where you will be able to explore unique collection documents the links between Britain and countries in the British Empire from the late 19th century to recent times.

The SS Great Britain and the Arnolfini will also be opening this week – you can visit their websites to book slots now and visit new exhibitions.

Look out for the Arnolfini’s 60th anniversary programme, which will feature artists including Keith Piper, Sutapa Biswas and Ian Breakwell. Seminal performance artist Bobby Baker’s work explores and celebrates everyday life, and promotes gender equality, delivers an online performance.

Aerospace Bristol will also be welcoming visitors from Wednesday, coinciding with the 30th anniversary of Henel Sharman becoming the first British person in space.

To celebrate, the Aerospace Bristol will be welcoming Henel to Bristol for a talk and Q&A session during the October half-term. Visitors will be able to hear about her journey to becoming an astronaut.
