Shop owner shares update on ‘horrible’ shoplifting situation
An independent shop will now be closed every Monday and Tuesday in an effort to combat an increase in shoplifting.
As Bristol24/7 reported in December, shoplifting in That Thing has had a “detrimental” effect on the livelihood of its owner Joh Rindom, and on the wellbeing of herself and her staff.
Rindom has now made “the very difficult decision to close” the shop on Stokes Croft on Mondays and Tuesdays “for the foreseeable”.

Writing on Instagram, Rindom said: “Unfortunately we’ve been targeted heavily with shoplifting, antisocial behaviour and intimidation in the past few months.
“It’s been a horrible situation for our staff, and we’ve simply taking measures to protect ourselves. Enough is enough.
“By only opening 5 days a week we can juuuust about to afford having multiple staff working at ALL times. And we’ve decided – naturally- to cut the quietest days, where also most incidents seem to take place
“It’s SUPER sad we’re having to do this, and as a small business owner I am VERY worried about the implications of the loss of earnings from the days we’re closed.
“I want to appeal to you all to help us engage and shout about our busienss if you can, and head to our website – especially on the days we’re closed.
“We’ve got over 599 items live as I write this – and more will hit the website these next few weeks.
“We can’t let these horrible people win. We need to protect what’s good in our community safety in numbers.
“Frequent your local indies. We need you!”
