Things are done differently in Bristol Shopping Quarter and this Easter is no exception. Instead of bunnies or chicks, Broadmead, Cabot Circus, The Galleries and The Arcade will play host to a herd of elephants.
Following last year’s zebra-themed trail, the Broadmead BID team is once more teaming up with The New Room (John Wesley’s Chapel) and The Methodist Church’s Ark Bus to create another exciting event.
For the past few weeks, across Bristol, children of all ages have been decorating cardboard elephants. From Saturday 8 until Sunday 23, the 40 elephants will be hidden for our youngest visitors and their families to hunt down over the Easter holidays.
Maps showing their locations will be available from the information desk in Cabot Circus, Barber Browns on Bond Street, Specsavers in Merchant Street and the New Room/John Wesley’s Chapel in Broadmead. There will also be a giant colouring-in elephant in Cabot Circus.
Children who complete the trail will be able to visit the New Room to collect a chocolate gift (Monday to Saturday only). They will be invited to draw their favourite memorable moments, creating pictures that will be laminated and displayed on a memory wall at the Broadmead entrance to the chapel courtyard.
Additionally, there will be free jungle-themed activities taking place in Cabot Circus on 8th and 9th April; in The Galleries on 8th and 20th April; and in The New Room/John Wesley Chapel on 11th, 15th & 18th April.
The Galleries will also be celebrating Easter with a free chocolate themed event – where families will find a ‘Willy Wonka Chocolate Factory’ inspired experience in the centre for children to enjoy. The event will run from 11am – 4pm on Thursday 13 April, Friday 14 April and Saturday 15 April. A Willy Wonka character will also be making an appearance every day, to entertain shoppers.
Children are invited to attend workshops, hosted by two candy striped helpers, who will teach them how to make scrumptious ‘Willy Wonka’ inspired sweets. They can also learn how to ‘professionally’ ice cookies in a design of their choice.
Finally, look out for the Heart FM angels on Monday 10 and Tuesday 11 April. They’ll be giving out chocolate eggs and daffodils to say thank you to shoppers for visiting Bristol Shopping Quarter this Easter and offering people the chance to win £250 worth of shopping vouchers.
Broadmead BID manager Jo Hawkins says: “They say elephants never forget and we hope they’ll remind you to visit Bristol Shopping Quarter this April to take part in our annual Easter trail as you explore the 500 shops, cafes and restaurants found within Broadmead, Cabot Circus, The Galleries and The Arcade.”
