By Bristol24/7  Tuesday Mar 27, 2018

If you ever find yourself stuck for date ideas then you’re in luck: we’ve partnered with DateMakers to share Bristol’s best date ideas and experiences.

This month, environmental consultant Dan, 27, went on a date with researcher Charlotte, 25, to taste and blend gins with November Papa Whisky at Milk Thistle.

EatDrink24/7 Launch Party is back on July 8 2026!
Exclusive collabs from Bristol’s favourite food vendors, available for one night only. Be first to grab your free copy of the EatDrink24/7 guide – plus every ticket comes with a free limited-edition beer can.

Have you ever been on a blind date before?

No, nothing similar to this.

What did you think of this experience as a first date?

It was an interesting experience, with plenty of new information and lots of gins to try.

What were your first thoughts when you saw your date?

There was no chance for an exchange of words as we were quickly shown the room and introduced to our host, Nathan.

What did you talk about?
Jobs, Charlotte’s recent PHD and her trip to Dublin.

What was the atmosphere of the date like?
I thought it was really nice, to have an experience rather than just meeting up for drinks.

Any moments when you wished you were somewhere else?
No, it was fun.

What would you say is the best characteristic of your date?
I thought Charlotte had a great sense of humour.

What do you think your date made of you?
I’m not sure. Funny, I hope!

Is there anything you would change about the afternoon?
No, Charlotte was great company, and Nathan an excellent host.

Were there any sparks of potential…?
There might have been something there, but I think it’s too early to tell.

Will you meet again?

Maybe, we’ll have to wait and see.

Charlotte:

Have you ever been on a blind date before?

No

What did you think of this experience as a first date?

It was a nice ice-breaker, gin tasting was a good conversation starter and creating our own gin flavours was very fun.

What were your first thoughts when you saw your date?

Good – he looks normal and friendly.

What did you talk about?

Gin, our jobs, music, recycling.

What was the atmosphere of the date like?

Relaxed and fun, Nathan was very knowledgeable about gin and I felt like I learnt some good facts!

Any moments when you wished you were somewhere else?

No.

What would you say is the best characteristic of your date?

He also liked gin – this would have been a bit awkward if he didn’t. Easy to talk to.

What do you think your date made of you?

Unsure. I think he was jealous of my gin flavour creations.

Is there anything you would change about the afternoon?

I would have ideally not left the gin we made in the pub afterwards! I had to go back for it!

Were there any sparks of potential…?

I’m not sure.

Will you meet again?

Possibly as friends.
