With the kids in Bristol: Cattle Country Adventure Park

By maria newman, Wednesday Aug 21, 2019

Located just outside the picturesque town of Berkeley is Cattle Country Adventure Park, a park-cum-farm that has plenty of indoor and outdoor activities to satisfy the whole family’s needs.

Having heard a lot about Cattle Country, the modest entrance only hinted at what was in store for this family day trip.

As soon as we entered the main grounds, the children’s eyes were as wide as saucers as they took in all of the activities that were available to them.

There are trampolines, a splash pool, a play barn and a castle – the hardest decision was which one to go to first. However, it wasn’t long before they decided that the wooden fortress of Berkeley Castle needed to be conquered.

Defending the castle at Cattle Country

This replica fortress is a labyrinth of walkways and towers that take you up and down and around and around. The children loved the suspense of where they might end up and the slides added an extra thrill. It was only the call for the animal experience that moved them on.

At the animal experience, there was a chance to give a bunny and guinea pig a cuddle, and who can resist a cute fluffy animal?

It was also the first encounter with The Brambles, a couple of energetic entertainers who captured the children’s attention. They were natural and funny and the children immediately warmed to them. A little later on, the duo also performed a free pantomime, which everyone enjoyed.

Getting to know the animals

To get rid of some energy, we headed to the mini soft play are. It’s enclosed and ideal for letting them let off a little steam before some pig racing at Cattle Country.

It was great fun and high energy, watching the piglets chasing Barnaby Bramble around the track to the finish line.

By this point, it was lunch time. The weather was a bit temperamental but there were plenty of picnic areas that are sheltered but still out in the open, as well as the Retreat Cafe which has many options for both light bites and main meals.

Conquering the Maize Maze at Cattle Country

The maize maze was the day’s penultimate stop and we ended the fun-packed family trip by spending some time in the Play Barn soft play.

Happy but exhausted, this family left with smiles on our faces and a sweet treat from the gift shop.

Prices for Cattle Country Adventure Park are £10.99 for adults and £11.99 for children (aged four to 17 years). Children under two go free.
