Rediscovering Bristol through a love of horticulture

By Safiya Bashir  Tuesday Jun 15, 2021

Over lockdown, many people across Bristol and the UK discovered a love for gardening and horticulture.

In fact, 14% of the population said that they had picked up the pastime over the course of the pandemic. To celebrate this new interest, the TV gardening duo, The Rich Brothers, took people on a walking tour across Bristol to explore the city’s hidden horticulture.

Starting at the Bristol Suspension Bridge, the group made their way to front gardens and parkland trees in the city, ending their rediscovery tour with a visit to the Bristol Botanical Gardens.

“Bristol is a beautiful city to explore plants, trees and flowers. There are lots of hidden green spots in unexpected places, so it’s no surprise that people got into gardening over lockdown,” said the Rich Brothers.

“We love the idea of helping people keep that interest alive and using it as a way to rediscover their cities with fresh eyes, with their community.”

Whilst wandering around Bristol’s gardens, the group used Behind the Lens with Google Pixel, which allows you to search what you are seeing to find out more.

“We were able to use Google Lens on Pixel as our clever discovery tool to identify some of the plant species with one tap, and also pick out the buildings and monuments we came across along the way using the cool Places filter,” said the Rich Brothers.
