Krishnan’s Kitchen

By Jo Holloway  Tuesday Sep 23, 2014

Krishnan’s Kitchen has opened in Clifton Village in the restaurant that was formally longstanding Italian and Gordon Ramsay favourite Prosecco.

Sticking to the formula that has won it numerous fans at its original site on Zetland Road in Redland, the only noticeable difference between this and its older sibling is that it has lost the Hari in its name.

The food here may be Indian but specifically it comes from Kerala, a state in the south-west of the country whose long coastline and numerous rivers means lots of seafood, mixed with the abundant coconuts and plenty of spices.

EatDrink24/7 Launch Party is back on July 8 2026!
Exclusive collabs from Bristol’s favourite food vendors, available for one night only. Be first to grab your free copy of the EatDrink24/7 guide – plus every ticket comes with a free limited-edition beer can.

Among the starters, the dosas (crispy savoury pancakes made from rice and lentils) are the choice of regulars to the Redland restaurant. Options include potato, lamb or prawn masala, all served with sambar and chutney.

Mains are divided into sections like “From Our Fisherman’s Net” with sides listed as “From Kerala’s Vegetable Backyard”.

Whether they have their own private fisherman or their own vegetable backyard are questionable.

But dishes like the fish molly (£8.50) are typically Keralan: king fish marinated in turmeric sauce, cooked in thick coconut milk with curry leaves, onion, ginger, fresh lemon juice and cubed tomato.
