‘Overwhelming sadness and frustration’ as popular pub closes
A sign on the window of a popular Bristol pub informs punters of its current predicament.
‘We are sorry but we don’t know when the Miners will be open again. We are doing our best.’
It comes after the Miners Arms in St Werburgh’s held a “drink the pub dry” weekend before closing its doors for the foreseeable future.
is needed now More than ever
The pub on Mina Road is part of the Dawkins Ales group, whose brewery in Easton closed in 2023 and some of whose other pubs across Bristol including the Hillgrove in Kingsdown, and the Portcullis and Victoria in Clifton, are currently on the market.
Another note on the window of the Miners from Glen Dawkins put up before the closing events says: “Dear valued customers. Times have been unbelievably tough for the Miners. The worst in our 23 years here.
“Despite the incredibly hard work of Donnie, Jacob and the brilliant team we have been laid low by the current climate for the pub trade in general and changes to our trading terms.
“We have put everything we can into the pub. It is overwhelmingly sad and frustrating. I am so sorry it has come to this.
“It is clear we cannot continue in the current form. Work is carrying on apace behind the scenes, but for the moment, we need to pause and say thank you and goodbye, for a bit. Hopefully, only for a short time.
“So please, drink the pub dry – well, drier still. Today, Saturday and Sunday… if we make it that far.
We’ll be closing when we’ve basically got nothing left, but do hope to see you when we reopen. Watch this space. All the best, Glen”
