‘New chapter’ for cheesemongers as they say goodbye to Wapping Wharf

By Karen Johnson  Tuesday Jul 15, 2025

The team behind one of Bristol’s best-known cheesemongers is gearing up for a “new chapter” as they say goodbye to their first permanent home in Wapping Wharf.

The Bristol Cheesemonger traded from one of Wapping Wharf’s cargo units for eight years before opening a new location on Gloucester Road in October 2024.

Three months away from their first birthday in the new premises, co-owner Oli Smith has announced their “tough decision” of closing the Wapping Wharf branch.

On a post shared on Instagram, he added: “We have met so many amazing people over the years who have been drawn to Wapping Wharf as an exciting, innovative part of the Bristol food scene.

“It continues to be one of the best places to eat in the UK, and we will certainly miss all the people there.

“For our central and south Bristol customers, we offer local delivery, but we look forward to seeing you up in Gloucester Road, where we can raise a glass together!

“Despite it being a tough decision, we are excited for the next chapter.

“We are fizzing with ideas for our Gloucester Road branch, so keep your eyes peeled in the next couple of months to see what we are up to.”
