New cafe and bakery opens for business
“What do you sell?” asked a customer walking into Drizzle on its first morning of opening.
He was told that this new cafe and bakery on Christmas Steps specialises in cakes and coffee. “I don’t like cakes,” he replied, walking straight out of the door.
If coffee and cakes do take your fancy, however, Drizzle is an ideal location in which to indulge.

Drizzle occupies what was most recently Dareshack and before that the Rice Box.
Its owner Francesca Grout is a former primary school teacher who later turned baking from a hobby into a business, selling her loaf cakes at markets across the Bristol area.
This is Drizzle’s first bricks and mortar premises, with Francesca baking a selection of sweet treats each day from an area at the rear of the cafe.
As well as the lemon drizzle cake – made with Francesca’s grandmother’s original recipe – there will also likely be Victoria sponge, Guinness cake and three different types of banana bread: Biscoff, chocolate chip and regular.
Coffee here is from Triple Co, the Montpelier business that has recently expanded into a larger roastery.
