Bristol brewer celebrates ‘women who overcome challenges’ with new beer
The award-winning Bristol brewery, Lost and Grounded, have unveiled their latest beer celebrating International Women’s Day.
The Brislington-based brewer has released “Together Sounds Better”, a 3.2% blackcurrant Berliner-style white beer, for “the women who make the beer industry special”.
Annie Clements, co-founder at Lost and Grounded, pointed out the marginal representation of women in the industry, which was once dominated by women of pioneering entrepreneurship.
is needed now More than ever
It is estimated that women now make up roughly 30 per cent of the beer industry, with only 3 per cent as brewers.

Lost and Grounded stated that they wanted to celebrate the women who pour their beer every day, overcoming challenges and stigmas.
This year, they opened the doors of their brewery to a group of women working in the beer and hospitality industries to demonstrate that “women belong in beer”.
Annie said: “It was a huge opportunity to meet with our peers and discuss our issues and achievements. We continue to strive for a more inclusive world, not only championing women in our workplace but highlighting atrocities against women globally.”
Brought together under this year’s theme, Unite Society, the fruit of their labour is “Together Sounds Better”.
The beer has the tartness of a traditional Berliner Weisse, and the colour and tang of blackcurrant, with a “big character and a bite to make you sit up and take notice”.
Annie continued: “Hey! Jane Austen brewed beer when she wasn’t busy writing novels! Today, we have a new revolution of women making serious waves in the brewing world.
“Over the past decade, the number of women in brewing has steadily increased. I’m excited to be working alongside incredibly talented women, both locally and globally.”
Since 2014, International Women’s Collaboration Brew Day (IWCBD) has brought women from across the beer and hospitality industry together to create delicious brews, uniting women and raising money for women’s causes.

According to Lost and Grounded, this is more than just a beer with a message; it has a purpose. Each year, IWCBD asks participating breweries to nominate a cause to support women in their community.
10p from each can of Together Sounds Better will be donated to Womankind, a St Paul’s-based charity offering counselling, helplines, and befriending schemes for women.
“I want to thank the incredible women from Womankind Bristol for joining us on our brew day and to Kyra for speaking to our community about their commitment to equality and inclusion for women. They help hundreds of women every year improve their mental health and well-being,” said Annie.
“Although significant barriers to gender equality remain, when women support other women, incredible things happen.”
