New location for Bristol Pride Festival

By Alison Maney  Thursday Mar 3, 2016

The Bristol Pride Festival will be held in a new location on the harbourside this year, organisers announced on Friday.

The event will take place on July 9 in the Bristol Amphitheatre and in At-Bristol’s Millennium Square. From 2010 to 2015, the event was held in Castle Park.

The Pride Day Festival, which caps off ten days of pride-related activities around the city, is one of the largest festival events in Bristol and one of the top-rated Pride events in the UK. A record 30,000 people attended last year’s celebration.

“Castle Park has been our home for the last six years and while we are sad to be leaving we have outgrown the current usable space,” said Daryn Carter, Bristol Pride organiser.

“We want Pride to be the best it can be whilst remaining a vital and visible community event. This move will help us to accommodate the numbers now attending Pride but also to offer dedicated spaces for our family and dance & performances areas in Millennium Square with thanks to At-Bristol.”

Bristol Pride’s new location will allow more capacity, as well as more live music, cabaret, dancers, family activities and stalls. Artists already scheduled to perform include Rozalla, the X-factor’s Lucy Spraggan, DeltAmour, local band Wildflowers, A*M*E and Elton John’s tourmates Bright Light Bright Light.

The festival will remain donation entry, though guests can purchase a £5 festival wristband to receive discounts across the event. Joint Day & Night tickets, which include entry into three after-parties, will also be available for £15.
